AboutOur Annual Great Performers Special Issue consists of two chapters: The first is our first annual award of performances of in a fun zesty manner, and the second chapter a photo essay taking a documentary approach of seeing actors when they are off the screen.


        


Part 1

The Weirdest, Wildest Performances of The Year

The magazine’s culture critic, Wesley Morris, celebrates the best overall performances in film by identifying a specific aspect of a piece of acting. On its own, that one element might be a singular achievement, but it also helps explain why the rest of a performance is so impossible to forget.

Actors in the Wild

For the photo essay, photographer James Nachtwey photographed twelve of the year’s biggest movie stars as they went about their daily lives, away from the chaos of moviemaking.
